COAL OIL EXPLODES.

An explosion of coal oil at Quebec ignited the clothes of a hoy named Robin. He rushed amongst his relatives. Nine others were ignited, and six wore burned to death. .

Storms and floods have occurred in California. Several persons have been drowned, including a millionaire and Ins wife, during a mountain cloudburst near the millionaire colony o( Mnrteceite.
Railroad communication is at a standstill. Hundreds are homeless, and ranches -are marooned-. The floods occurred in low-lying districts.

Jluring t|i> naval debate in the,Senate; Air Rostock said that after following the system of contribution as a naval policy for a few years, Australia had finally abandoned it. Nobody had accused Australia of disloyalty in acting thus, and therefore nobody ought to accuse the Canadians, their own navy, of disloyalty. If the Empire was to be held together, the feelings of Australians and New Zealanders ought to be considered, and the whole question of Pjicjfic defence taken up without delay. "
