THE STBATFPBD qtUB.
(By P. Steward.)
The ganies for the Buttons last evening practically decided the competition. Although another round lias to he played according to tjie conditions, Sjpiqrt’s tpapi lias not been beaten, Ijayjng six wins to his .Credit, and eytjn with a t loss plappd against him he would still be in the lead- No one griplgos “George” his success —in fact, it is the popular fancy—apd as in every other sport, whep the favorite gets home there is cause fou general rejoicing. At the same tiiwe all the credit of the win does not “lie” with George: those who have played with him during the competition were Porritt, Martin, Wilson, Hignett and Evans, and theirs is the . honour in no small degree, hut all the harm this scribe wishes them is that they will not hold the Buttons long! May some other good and trusty howlers soon combine and wrest the honors from them. Thus will the Buttons long remain and he to the Club emblems considered worth striving for.
