"Saved!"
AT THE PENITENTS’ FORM. AN UNDER WORLD ROMANCE. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables. (Received S a.m.) Loudon, January 19.
A grim romance of the under world ended at Highgate Cemetery in the I burial of George Cook with full Salvation Army honours. Seventeen years ago an Old Bailey judge, in sentencing him to twelve years’ imprisonment, pronounced Cook the most export coiner of the century. Commencing with a sentence of nine months for passing base coin, Cook passed over thirty years in prison sentences aggregating forty-five years. Whilst serving the last sentence Cook came under the Army influence and secured his ticket-of-leave. In 1910 he publicly confessed at the penitents’ form, and since then he was a loyal and steadfast soldier, living a blameless life.
