ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
DROWNED AT SHELLY BEACH.

Press Association.] Auckland, January 17. ■ While over a hundred people were bathing at Shelly Beach at 8 o’clock last evening a lad of 18 years named Leslie Adams was apparently carried out by the current and drowned. No one heard his cry for Help, and no anxiety was felt until an hour after, when his clothing was found on the rocks. A cousin of Adams had noticed the latter (who could not swim) up to his armpits in water. Later he missed him, but supposed he had gone ashore. When the clothing was found a search was made in a boat, but there was no trace of the body. Adams’ father resides at Freeman’s Bay. SCHOOLMASTER KILLED. Auckland, January 17.
The man who died at the hospital as a result of a fall from a train has has been identified as Patrick Beaten Ligertwood,schoolmaster at Waitomo, who was visiting Auckland.
KILLED BY A TRAIN.
Carterton, January 17
Thomas Johnston, an employee of tho Waingawa Meat Works,aged about 40, was killed by tho morning (mail in'attempting to cross. Tho train was close to deceased, who evidently thought he could run across first. The engine struck and killed him instantly, his skull being smashed like •an egg shell. The body was brought to Carterton. Deceased was a married man with a wife in England.
MINE MANAGER KILLED. v Reef ton, January 17. E. Downic, manager and foreman of the Energetic Mine, was killed by a fall of earth in the mine this morning. ,’Downie had been ill' and only lately resumed work.
