HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Stratford Hospital ami Charitable Aid Board mot in the borough Council Chambers this morning, when there was present—Mr J. McAllister (chairman), Messrs -I. Christoffell, E. Walter, C. i). Sole, J. Smith and W. Rogers. Reports. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. Steven' reported that fifteen patients were admitted, fifteen discharged, and three died, one of the deaths occurring in the Isolation Ward. Five operations were performed. To enable me to attend the Australasian Medical Congress, I heg the Board to grant me ten days' leave of absence. Report- received, and leave of absence granted. Report of Matron. Xurse Healy returned from her holiday on the 29th December, and Xurse Condin is at present on holiday. I notice that the window panes on the outside of the building rerequire painting, also something done to the ground outside the men’s ward. —Received. Report of Gardener. There is nothing special to report. 1 have just finished the front after fully a week’s weeding, and the plots and paths now are in good order. I am now going on with the vegetable garden, getting it ready for late plants. I should very much like arrangements made for stable manure in good time. lam sorry this year vegetable's have not done nearly sc well as years gone by, the shellsnails have played havoc with my cabbage and hrocolli to a great extent. I should like permission to make a door at the lower end of the garden to wheel in the manure with less trouble and also annoyance to the hospital as to smell and flies. A garden hose, 15 yards long, with spray, is very much needed, the former one was taken for use in the mail
building. . ..The report ( wns received and authority given to purchase hose. Sanitary inspector’s Report. Xo infectious diseases have been notified in the district during the month. The plumbing work at tut new Infectious Diseases Hospital hat been made to comply with the Bor ough by-laws. Four bakehouses wert inspected. Bread was weighed at each and in every instance it warfull weight. The marts, fishshops and fruit shops were inspected. Twt Midhirst butchers’ shops wore re-in-spected re recommendations made under the new regulations. both instances the work is being done One bakehouse was inspected, am' the baker’s bread was weighed am found to lie full weight. One condemned building at Toko has beerdemolished. One butcher at Strath more was asked to make Ids shop comply with the new regulations. It, three instances occupiers of premise? were asked to abate nuisances. Om bakehouse was inspected and tin bread was weighed. One nuisance was abated at Huiakama. Om boardinghouse at To Wera was in snooted and the owner was asked ti fill in a pit privy. Two stables wen inspected.
Offer by Madame Bernard. The Clerk reported, that Madam* Bernard offered to give a matinee oi Saturday, the 24th for the benefit o' the Hospital, provided the advertising and printing expenses were paid b\ the Board. It was unanimously resolved tliaf Madame Bernard be thanked for be* offer, which was much appreciated b\ the Board. Additions and Alterations.
The Architect (Air J. D. Healy) attended and produced plans of the proposed alterations, when after some discussion it was resolved that the plans be submitted to the local bodies and that totara joists and sleepers instead of rirnu be used, and that a chimney and fireplace in the sitting room he provided in place of the radiator system.
