DOMINION’S REVENUE.

[Per Press Association.! Dunedin, January 9

To-day a reporter was informed •>} the Hon. Mr Allen, Minister pi Finance, that the approximate revenue returns for the nine months end ed December 31 were very satisfactory. “There has been a considerable improvement in,,revenue in tlr last few weeks,” the Minister added “I have no doubt now that the (Jus toms will exceed the estimate for tin year. The revenue in that depart ment for nine months is alread; higher than in the corresponding nine months in 1912. As far 'as can see, there is every likelihood tha the income tax will also exceed th estimate for the year. For the nin months ended December, the ineom is a good deal higher than in the co ; responding period in the > previoi year.

“The post and telegraph revenr improved slightly in. the last in on! of the quarter ended December. Fthe opening months of the year r turns indicated a falling off, In things have picked up again and no show an advance. The land tax hr realised £47,000 more. Beer duty about the same. The revenue fro. the railways has not so far come u to the estimate. Registration an other fees are £IB,OOO more.

“Territorial revenue shows a «de crease of £52,000. hut this is explain a!)le because the present Govcrnmon pays the revenue derived from lain sales into the Land lor Settlements account. The National Fndowmen revenue'' shows an increase of about £13,000. The increase of revenue fo> the nine months is about £125,001’ not including territorial revenue fron the land sales. If that revenue wer< included, the total increase would bi about £200,000.”

The Hon. Mr Allen, said details o the expenditure had not reached bin yet but be expects them in the coins of a few days.
