SAD DROWNING FATALITY
FATHER AND DAUGHTER LOST. On Sunday afternoon, December 28. J. Johnson, An orchardist, took four of jbis youngest children for a row on the 'Goulhurn River, Victoria, in a flatbottomed boat. When about JO yards distant from bis homestead Ids youngest daughter, aged 2, fell into about 120 ft of water. Johnson plunged in after her, carrying with him an oar of the boat, but according to the statements of the other children lie never came to the surface. The cries of the children attracted the attention of two youths who were staying at Johnson’s house. They swam out to the rescue, and found the infant floating, hut no trace of the father could lie found. The child was dead. The body of the father was recovered next day. Deceased leaves a widow and ton young children.
