Colonel Von Router made a dramatic appeal to the Court. He declared that as a soldier and a man he had done only what was absolutely necessary to prevent worse things happening. The honor of the army was in his keeping, and he had safeguarded the trust reposed in him.
The Prosecutor, in his address, said that Yon Renter had acted in good faith but bad unconsciously usurped police authority and violated tin* law by imprisoning citizens instead of banding them over to the civil author rities.
