DEFENCE OF THE EMPIRE.
THE FLEET’S SUPERIORITY.
[By Electric Telegraph—■ Copyright] [United Press Association.] London, January 9.
Mr S. 0. Buckmaster, a member of the Cabinet, speaking at Keighley, said there was not even a rift in the Government ranks over the armament policy. The policy provided for safety to ourselves and the Dominions. The Government would maintain the unassailable superiority of. the fleet, but neither for aggrandisement nor aggression would they add a single unit. “While maintaining our own rights, we will not menace the rights of others. Britain desires the goodwill of all, and hopes this policy, plainly expressed and pursued, will dissipate the nightmare of suspicion and distrust whereunder the nations of Europe are gasping for breath.”
