i A military witness described the 'stoning of the soldiers by a howling 'crowd of one hundred people. Two barristers gave evidence of
complete tranquility, that there was no cause for military intervention. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Berlin, January 8. A sergeant of the Gendarmerie testified that he saw the military arresting people in Schbssplatz. At Zabern on the 28th the square was practically empty. He .did not know why the people were arrested. Excitement always became noticeable when the soldiers appeared. The Prosecutor proposed that Von. Renter be acquitted on the charge of usurping his executive power, as he was unaware that he was acting illegally, but "proposed a week's imprisonment for infringing the liberty of subjects, and also proposed three days' imprisonment for Lieut. Schad for striking a witness named Kormann. Sentences were postponed till Saturdav.
