WHANGAMOMONA SPORTS.
TO BE HELD ON THURSDAY. On Thursday next, January Btli, the Whangamomona - Ko.huratahi Sports Club will hold their annual meeting at Whangamomona. This annual function is now much looked forward to, and every effort is being made to make this year’s gathering the biggest, brightest and best the district has seen. Mr J.\B. Mine is patron of the club and Mr W. A. McCutchan is president. Mr A. McMeekan is secretary, and a large number of .capable committeemen and stewards are assisting in the arrangements. The entries for all events are large and some great contests are promised in the chopping handicaps, in which many leading axemen will take part. Trophies have been freely given by Stratford firms, and special railway arrangements have been made by the sports committee, who have managed fco obtain a connection between the train leaving Stratford at 7 o’clock on Wednesday evening (January 7th) and the Public Works Department’s train at Pohokura, to enable visitors Ito go right through to Whangamomona that evening. Mr S. Backhouse is to act as time- ! keeper. The chopping entries include three well-known Australians and the leading New Zealanders, amongst the latter being the winner of the big ebon at Eltham (Volzkel and S. T. Smith, winner of the big chop at Wanganui. If the weather is at all fine, there is sure to he a large number of visitors from Stratford at tb» -norts.
