If'. ♦ At Melbourne, George Cooke and Elizabeth Cooke were sentenced, in the Criminal' Court, to 12 months’ imprisonment, with hard labor, after being found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the death of their son, who died of disease, starvation, and neglect, the boy’s weight at the time of deathj being 181bs 2ozs. Mr Justice Cuss'en said that the jury Jiad to take a serious view of the case, and in spite of their previous good character he could not release the accused. They had become careless and had forgotten their duties.
