' ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

A hotel -porter named George Webster attempted to commit suicide this evening by cutting his throat with a razor. Ho was conveyed to the hospital in a critical condition. Webster came from Palmerston North about a/ month ago, * WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS. * Wellington, January 1. A fatal tramway accident occurred to-day. Bandolf Olivant Stewart, aged 28, a married man with one child, was coming into town to go on doty, and was riding on top of a lou'dedecker in Adelaide road. His bat blew off, and Stewart leaned over the side rail in an attempt to recover it. His head struck a trolley standard, inflicting such serious injury ihnt thought medical attendance was qmckly at hand and the man was immediately taken to the hospital, death occurred within a hour. Another conductor had a narrow escape in the city while taking fa-vs on the footboard. A hand cart ‘ tinea the car and the conductor (Arthur Barnard) was thrown heavily to the ground but fortunately escaped serious, injury., ~
MINER'S SUDDEN END.
Thames, January 2
Eugene O’Sullivan, a miner, 33, died suddenly yesterday while filling a bucket of water, presumably from heart failure. A SEAMAN’S END. Wanganui, January 2. At the inquest on the body of Alex Rennie, first, mate of the Inga, which was found in the river yesterday, a verdict of accidentally drowned through falling off the wharf was returned.
