About 3000 people attended the Wairarapa Caledonian sports to-day, at which the American athletes competed. G. L. Parker had injured one of his legs at Wellington and he could not take part in the sprint events. R. B. Templeton put up an Australasian'record .in the running high jump (oft llfin) and the polevault (lift,' 21-l Gin). J. A. Power equalled the New Zealand record in the 880yds handicap, which he won in Imin 5 81-osec. H. Stagpoole (Palmerston North) defeated Keddell (Southland) and Templeton (U.S.A.) in the l2()yds hurdles. Templeton had the rfiisfortune to crash into one ot the obstacles. . RUGBY FOOTBALL. IRELAND BEATS FRANCE. (Received 11.50 a.m. ) Paris, January 1. At Rugby Ireland scored a goal and a try and France two tries.
