WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Whangamomona County Council was held on Tuesday. Present: Crs. A. Meredith (chairman), W. A. McCutchan, W. Bacon,-X. R. Cleland, J. Diggins, A. Coyne and J. McCTuggage. ; In reference to the Ohura Road metalling it was decided,to call a meeting of ratepayers with the object of having the loan increased, to £3500..p * Mr Bennett was given permission to cut firewood on' the Kohuratahi pound site at a royalty of 2s..ppr. cmd, rumc. of the big matai to he touched unless the foreman reports that it is unsuitable for posts. It was decided to got a legal opinion as to whether, if the Ohura Road metalling loan is refused, a separate rate can he struck over the'Central Riding only. If the opinion is that this can he done, the Chairman and Engineer were empowered to deal with a tender received to the best advantage, provided a reduction of at least 9d per yard could be obtained. Mr C. Coulton was granted a lease of road reserve at Huiakama at an annual rental of os.

It was decided to call for applications for collection of dog tax on the sarao terms as last year.

The scale of foremen’s wages is to be fully discussed at next meeting. A letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding “thirds” on Greece’s section on Whangamomona Road was held over.

Repairs to the extent of £5 are to be made on Tapuni Road. A man is to be put on the Brewer Road to do necessary maintenance work.

The Engineer was empowered to employ selected casual labor at wages up to 10s per day.

It was decided to metal the footpaths in the township from the County Council office to the bakehouse, and from Airs Court’s to the bank.

The meeting of ratepayers regarding Ohura Road loan was fixed for January 13th next.

The right of removal of tram timber from the main road was granted to Mr Harris.

The Resident Engineer is to he requested to have the expenditure of grant of £IOOO for the Marco Road, put in hand at once. Accounts amounting to £237 11s Bel were passed for payment.
