ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
FATAL MOTORCAR ACCIDENT. TPeh Pbess 'Association. 1 Patnierstdn North, December 22, A painful motor-ear accident happened on the Rangitikei line at 4.30 this afternoon, resulting in the death of David Musgrove, a taxi-cah driver and well-known athlete. He was driving four passengers towards Palmerston North, when a tyre hurst and the car turned over, killing Musgrove instantly. John Sanquist, another occupant of the car, was seriously injured. He was removed to a private hospital. Andrew McCluchie suffered a broken arm, while the other two occupants escaped injury.
THE DEADLY LEVEL-CROSSING.
An old man named Stratford was the victim of an open crossing accident at 7.30 this evening. When a goods train was passing the post office he was crossing the line, and, apparently, he did not hear the train approaching. He was struck by the engine and thrown clear of the line. He was taken to the hospital, suffering from cqncussion of the brain, and died halfafter his admission to the hospital. Deceased was 78 years old. He was one of the pioneers of the district.
A WOMAN'S DROWNINC.
Wellington, December 22
The body of a woman was found floating in the harbor this evening, and was later identified as that of Mrs H. Temple White, daughter-in-law of the Rev. J. H. White. Deceased only came down from Feilding recently. She had been suffering from mental depression for some time and had been missing for about ten days.
MOTOR-CAR RUNS AWAY
Westport, December 22
A motor-car accident occurred on the Buller Gorge road to-day, whereby Mrs Tyers, wife of Mr Tyers, of Christchurch, formerly of the Income Tax Department, fractured a leg, an eight-year-old lad named Liddy fractured a thigh, and a man named Bowman was severely bruised. There were several others in the car, which ran away just as drivers had been changed at the top of Burley's Hill, and went" over an embankment, but the rest escaped with slight injuries. The car was badly damaged. At the hospital to-night, Mrs Tyers's fractured leg was amputated' above the ankle.
