Gangsters who frequented the Madison Square Gardens during the bicycle race fought a revolver battle. One gang of criminals commandeered a street car, from the shelter of which they' poured a volley into the othei gang, who were sheltering on a street corner'. . -
The passengers threw themselves face downwards on the, floor; the bullets whistling through the windows. The police then arrived and the combatants leaped into waiting automobiles and escaped. Despite the heavv fusilade, no one was injured.
