"WILD WEST BILL."

IN TROUBLE WITH FIREARMS.

[Per Press Association. 1 Auckland, December 12,

At the Showground at Epsom yesterday evening, a man named William McCloud, who is running a Wild West side show, was arrested by Constable Wales on ,the charge that he discharged a pea rifle at William F. Oxenham, close to the living and skow tents occupied by McCloud. Oxenham is one of the attendants at a side show. Yesterday evening, ' Oxeninun and another attendant were attending to One of the horses of the show which was restive, and Oxenham had occasion *o call out a warning to his mate that if he were not careful the horse "woul get into the barbed-wire fence. The shout brought McCloud from his tent with a caution to Oxenham to "cut out that language," whereon Oxenham reformed that there was no "language'' to cut out.

Oxenham states that McCloud went back to his tent.and immediately afterwards reappeared with a pea rifle, which he discharged in the direction of himself and his mate. When the constable went to arrest McCloud, the latter had a revolver in his right hand and started firing the weapon in the direction of a boy who was in the vicinity. The constable chased through the tent and caught McCloud, placing him under arrest. Later, the constable took charge of four pea rifles and another revolver that were in MeCloud's tent and were used by the' showman in giving exhibitions of markmanship. When McCloud came before the court this morning Sub-Tnspector Johnston asked for a remand for a week. This was granted. Bail, which was forthcoming, was fixed at one surety of £75.
