The National Prohibition debate produced an extraordinary scene in the House of Representatives. The einimpions of prohibition packed the gail.M'ie:-. and cheered and shouted as Mr Hobson pleaded for the adoption of the resolution making prohibition part oi the American constitution.

Mr Hobson attacked Mr Underwood, with whom there is acute personal rivalry for a senatorial position. The spectators saw tiie point, and shouted louder than ever.

The Chairman admonished the spectators, and a voice shouted: "We're American citizens!''

The debate was adjourned
