BOWLING.

THE STRATFORD CLUB. (By l\ Steward.) After fclio spoil oi' line weather, the green is playing in rare ord'"*, and interest in the competitions ; ad been revived considerably. The contest for the championship promises to be a keen one, many of the entrants showing much improved form within the last week. it is almost needless to state that the Buttons competition still holds pride of place, and nightly onwards the battle threatens to wage determinedly. Referring to competitions, it strikes the new member hard that there, i.s nothing he can call his own. in a first year, new to all the surroundings of the game, to have to part a couple of shillings for the pleasure of meeting the "cracks" ii! the championship, is not even sweet

sorrow, because no hope is held 01 meeting again. ' So the new players may not be blamed for the absence of j their names from the championship. It is not expecting too much, under these j circumstances, to hope that the com-J mittee will arrange a "Colts'" competition for a prize, say, of the amount of a solitary "sub"—and, what would 1 be still more encouraging, with en-i trance free. ; The unfortunate accident to "George" Smart was received with genuine regret by members. His hearty presence on the green will be much missed. It is reassuring, how-: ever, to learn that "George" will be I only- temporarily laid aside. AUSTRALIAN TEAM'S VISIT.
