ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
FATALITY AT TOLAGO BAY. jPeb Pbess Association. I Gisborne, December 7. A boating fatality occurred at Tolago Bay on Saturday afternoon. Three Maoris were crossing the bar on their way to the fishing grounds, when the boat capsized in the surf. One native swam ashore and left the other two clinging to the boat. A launch at once went out to their, assistance, but in the meantime the boat had drifted ashore, and when the launch arrived on the scene both. the Maoris were in shallow water, one • supporting: the other. | This man was, with difficulty, got ashore in a semi-unconscious state. A doctor was immediately sent for, but the man collapsed, death being due to shock. The deceased Maori was a well-known identity. His name, was Te Pura, and he was 77 years of age.
A CURIOUS MISHAP.
Wellington, December 7
A man named P. Bailey was admitted to the hospital this morning suffering from the result of an unusual mishap. By some means a beetle entered one of his ears, which was bleeding profusely, rendering a critical operation necessary.
YOUNG MAN DROWNED.

A .young .man, John Tonks, was drQwned in the Makara River, near the bead), tprday. No particulars are available. A VET'S SUICIDE. Auckland, December 8. A veterinary surgeon named Thoric Gifford Palgrave, aged 42 years,, .was found dead at his residence in Brighton Road, Parnell, yesterday. It. was reported to. the police that death had apparently been due to poisoning. Deceased, prior to going to Parnell abowta year ago, from New South Wales, had a serious nervous breakdown, and since then he had been very despondent at times. Yesterday morning Mrs Palgrave wonfe for a- wpalk, and on her. return at about 1.30 p.m. could aofc iiud her husband.. Eventually she looked through the window of the washhouse,, where she saw him lying on a box apparently.dead. She summoned Dr. Kinder, and it was found! life, was extinct.
