TARANAKI PROVINCIAL EXECU*

TIVE.

The monthly meeting of* the' Taranaki Provincial Executive, N.Z. Fanners’ Union, was held at Hawera on Thursday, when there were present, Messrs R. Dunn (in the.„ chair), E. Maxwell, R. Lamhie', A'. 13. dasher, J. Thomson, MV ’ll. H. Buckeridgo, and J. Davidson. DEFENCE FUND. The following motion wase carried unanimously:—“That tins Executive places on record its appreciation of the action of the meeting of dairy companies representatives, held at Stratford, in carrying a. proposal to provide a fluid for the defence of their industry, and hopes that it will be endorsed by all dairy companies and that sirpilar action \yi)l he taken’ by all other producers.” ORGANISATION. The matter of the proposal by the Auckland Executive of the Farmers Union to have a. united farmers’, organisation throughout Australasia for the purpose of taking united action in case of industrial crises was discussed. Mr Lamhie said he had the greatest sympathy with the real worker, and thought he was not paid any more than he should bo paid, hut there were a good many concerned in the present strike for which he had no sympathy. It had come to a fine pass farmer had not only to produce, but to. see that his produce was shipped and-distributed. On the-mo-tion of Mr Buckeridge, seconded by Mr Maxwell, it was resolved: “That the Taranaki Executive of the Farmers’ Union are in entire sympathy with the suggested action in the direction of arranging for combined action with the Australian Farmers’ Union with a view to insuring the handling of New Zealand farmers’ produce in Australian ports and vice versa, and this Executive would ask the Auckland Executive to keep this Executive informed as to the proposed steps so that this Executive can assist.” It was also resolved that the Executive appreciates the action of all, branches under its control who have assisted in getting farmers’ produce shipped in the present industrial dis-i location. Mr Washer (for Mr Buckeridge) moved the following, viz;., “That the Advisory Committee of the 1 nion be asked to obtain from ti.o Government the fullest information in regard to the scheme of agricultural education proposed for the United States under Mr Groc’s scheme.” Mr Buxton seconded the motion, which was carried.

In'aiK'li. brought no the question of numerically strengthening the Union, and stated that his branch had issued a circular to all fanners in the Pa tea district urging the necessity for united action in case of any federation acting against the fanning interests. The result from the issue of the circular had been very satisfactory. Mr Dunn thought it would, be a good thing \to advise all branches to take similar action. He dcn'ored the fact that the Union had not received the support it should have done, and it behoved every farmer to support it. He was quite prepared to admit that the farmers generally had responded splendidly in the present crises.

On the motion of Mr Thomson, it was resolved that an appeal he made to all brandies to take similar action to that which Patoa had taken.
