AN ALL-ROUND SUCCESS.
PRESBYTERIAN SALE OF WORK. T'ne sale of work in connection with the St. Andrew’s Church passed oil very successfully yesterday. 'The propitious weather favored the project greatly. The attendance in the afternoon was good, and in the evening the Foresters’ Hall was crowded. The ladies arranged their stalls with good taste, and the gentlemen assisted in ornamenting the Hall. When everything was complete the place presented a picture at once beautiful, varied, and pleasing. The stalls were arranged as follows:—First, on the left on entering the Ball, came the work stall. For months past the ladies were sewing and collecting for this stall, and they had a large and varied assortment of useful articles for sale. Next came ban apron stall, which was really an extension of the work stall. Here were displayed a large and varied collection of aprons. Mesdamcs Smart, Petrie, Campbell and Stanton wore in charge of these stalls. Following this was the produce stall, where a varied stock of household provisions was in hand. This was in charge of Mesdamcs Smith, nous, McGowan and Paul.
The sweet stall was tastefully decorated and arranged under the supervision of Mesdanies McNeely and Lawrence, and containing a, very tempting array of confectionery and cakes.
The kitchen stall was arranged in good taste, and supervised by Mesdames Curtis and Steven. Here were provided an excellent array of articles suitable for kitchen use.
The fancy stall was under the charge of Mrs I*. Thomson and Miss Stanton. This stall, true to its name, was handsomely decorated, and contained many things for both use and ornament. The refreshment room was in charge of Mesdjunes Brocklehank, McCluggage, Smith and Neilsen. This was well patronised during the afternoon and evening. A flower stalk graced the centre ol the Hail, where .Mesciames Ivlorison and Corkill presided. A novel feature of the entertainment was a ‘-Magic Well” devised by Mr Stanton and managed by the Misses Stanton, Campbell, Lawrence and Lowe. During the evening Mrs McNeely and Mi«s Mackey contributed a pianoforte solo, Miss Sullivan and Miss Mackey rendered vocal solos. > Mi Wilkie, of widespread fame, gave a comic 'speech jiVirporting to bo the oration of a well-known labor leader. This constribution showed real insight into the aspirations of certain labor leaders. It was distinctly clever and witty, and was much appreciated. The orchestra rendered a series of pieces during the evening in fine stylo, their performance being greatly enjoyed. A nailing competition amongst the ladies called forth much amusement, and a skeine winding game by the gentlemen elicited spun' fun. Mrs McXeely and Mr Douglas rendered good service in getting up the musical programme for the evening. A line gramophone, kindly lent for the occasion by Mr "Walsh, discoursed pleasing musical items at various intervals during the course of the afternoon and evening.
Tho Presbyterians worked hard to make the sale a success—much thought am! preparation, and energy being put into it. Special praise is due to .Mr \V. Brocklebank, Mr k. Lilley for their arduous labors in connection with the routine work in the Hall.
The Presbyterians are greatly pleased With the results of the sale. They consider that from every point of \ iew—attendance, socially and, financially it was a distinct success.
