The Wrngan'ui Agricultural Society’s annual show commenced to-day in beautiful weather. The show, taken altogether, is an excellent one, though the strike interfered with a number of entries, particularly in regard to those which wore expected from'the South Island and' Auckland. The following championships were awarded :—Hereford heifer, E. Short ; Short horn bull, J. A. Turner; Holstein bull.' W. Lovelock; Polled Angus, bull ami cow, F ( i*ed 'Mbtire; Jersey bull, Mrs F. M. Nficon ; Lincoln van; and ewe and lamß| f; Mrs ( ,' J. I). Ormbnd'Romney ram anil ewe,' R. Tanner.

Senior Sergeant Rutledge and Sergeant Mock raided a greengrocer's shop in Alexandra street to-night and seized a quantity of gin and whisky; The shop was!.oepnpied by William and Mabel Constance Wilkinson. Their naiyes and those of three men and a woman were taken with a view to a further prosecution. The liquor seized was secreted in various parts of the shop and adjoining rooms. When the police entered, two men, it is al'eged, were drinking. ’
