(Received S.O a.m.) I Lord Curzon, in a lecture at the Cambridge University on "modern parliamentary eloquence," stated that oratory had almost disappeared in the [House of Commons. The growth of platform speaking had detracted from the vogue of parliamentary eloquence. Whilst the latter still unlocked the door to Ministerial office, it was the platform that made or unmade leaders, and decided the fortunes of parties.
