New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford Branch; report as follows : On Tuesday, 4th inst., we held outusual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a fair yard(iflg of 440 head of cattle, of which 173 head were .501 d. , :, Competition was brisk for fat and forward cows, also for good 15 months steers, but dnll Jor, heifers. ~A line of 120 grown bullocks, condition rather backward, was offered, but as, tho cattle were offer,ed as a line the buyers present did : not feel justified in bidding up to their value, consequently they were passed in. The owner intends freshening them up before placing them, on the market again, ...The following prices were secured.:—Mixed yearlings 45s for small to 57s 6d for fair grown cattle, poor yearling, steers 355, 445, and (f s2s, for good grown stuff showing quality (its was secured, yearlig to 15 .mouths heifers, well grown, 46s to 525, and from 55s to 61s for good stuff. For a line of nice colored stuff, 15 months old, 85s was secured, 2 year old empty heifers from 76s to 77s 6d, store cows (good demand) 68s to 955, forward cows up to 105 s. On "Wednesday, sth inst., we held another demonstration of stumping with eruptite on Mr A. J. Smith's farm, Cardiff Road, Cardiff, when amongst those present were:—A. J. Smith, W. Richards, E. NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY REPORT. On Wednesday, . 29th inst., at Kohurat'ah'l, for my opening sale in the now yards, I had a big entry of 55(Miead'of all' classes of cattle. The attendance ,of buyers was very satisfactory, | these being' present in big numbers from all' parts of Taranaki, and a good contingent through from the Ohura. On Friday, 31st inst., at my first : Waiwakaiho hull fair, I had a fair catalogue of bulls, mostly Jerseys and Holsteins. There was a good attendance, and inquiry for bidls, especially for young Jerseys and Holsceins showing hreeding. Pedigre* Jersey bulls made from 12gns. to *'-sg-is.,' grade [Jersey bulls from £4 5s to £1). grade Holsteins £5 to £ll 10s, Ayrshires £H Bs, yearling Shorthorn* f 5 10s. At Kaponga on the «une day tluie was a good entry of all classes, with a good attendance ,and competition for the full yarding, winch sold ai, the following prices:—Yearling steers £2 6s to £3 Is, empty heifers £3 7s 6d to £3 lis, yearling and 15 month- heifers £2 to' £2 19s, springing heifers £5 2s 6d to £7 ss, bulls from £3 2s 6d to £9 15s, aged store cows £2 to £3 ss, good store cows £3 14s to £4 8s 6d, forward cows £4 16s to £5 7s, fat cows £6 3s.

On Monday, 3rd inst., at myTTrenui yards, there was a full yarding of cattle, mostly good saleable sorts, for which there was good bidding. Some good lines of 2 year colored heifers were yarded, and sold well. Yearling heifers were, much improved, the prices obtained for these cattle being very satisfactory. In the dairy pens the heifers > were a poor lot, mostly tale of lines, but anything showing any quality sold well.
