Dumont (Minister of Finance)’ in his Budget speech in the Chamber of Deputies, stated that flu* expenditure for 1914, ivas estimated at £2l-1,900,000, leaving >'a" deficit of £Bl, 000,9(11), which was due to the operations in Morocco, and £18,000,000 to military reforms. Half’ the deficit was covered by a loan, in addition to a £40,000,000 loan in connection with the Triennial service system. The remainder of the deficit was covered hv increased taxation, including a double duty on Bourse transactions and a tax on inherited property. 4he last named was estimated to yield three millions.
