Sir Philip Magnus, M.A., presiding at the London University Zionist Society, recognised the possible danger of the? Jews'being assimilated by the nations amongst whom they dwelt. This was largely duo to the prevalent indifference to religion and the inc'fbasing of ihixed marriages, stimulating the idea of exorcising a centripetal force tending to bind the Jews together and possibly found an endeavour to develop Jewish culture in some centre. Jerusalem, where the finest f |iterat.ure which had had a greater influence on the world than any other had been produced, was an ideal place. Other speakers supported a Hebrew University on the lines of the London University.
