TRIBUTE FROM THE BAR.
[Per Prtcss Association^ Wellington, October 22
There was a notable array of legal talent at the Supreme Court to do honor to Sir Joshua Williams, to mark his elevation to the Privy Council. Fully a hundred members of the Bar were present. On behalf of the Bar, the Attorney-General, Mr Herdman, congratulated Sir Joshua on the honor and distinction conferred on him by the King. The appointment marked an epoch in the history of the administration of justice in New Zealand. Sir Joshua had managed in some wonderful W&y to master the secret of gaining the confidence of the people and had left behind him an example which all should emulate. Replying, his Honor said that he was profoundly moved by such a large assembly, but the had said a great deal too much respecting his services to the State. It was era honor hecause it carried with it corresponding -duties, aind New Zealand's representative would take'part in the deliberations of the Judicial Commitjtee ftff the'first [time. He 'hoped nis" appointment would-'pave the way for Other members of the;Xew Zealand judicial bench when they had retired to take up similar duties. He was retiring because long and constant sitings were getting too much for him. He hoped before his death to return to the Dominion.
