METHODIST CHURCH.

STRATFORD CIRCUIT.

The quarterly meeting of the Stratford circuit was held at Stanley Road on Thursday, when there was a representative gathering. The Rev. A. Reader presided; Tlie finances of the quarter showed a deficit, which was unusual for the winter quarter.

Sunday-school »nd Christian Endeavor work was shown to be flourishing, particularly at Midhirst, 1 in connection with the Endeav'orots, The Rev. A. Reader accepted a nnanimdns invitation to superintend tho circuit for another year. The Rev. Edward Bandy, however, announced that he had accepted an invitation to the Qneon Street Church in Xew Plymouth. Regret was expressed at his kHivihg circuit, and a resolution wife minuted accordingly. At the conclusion of the business, tea was provided by tho ladies of the Stanley Road congregation., in the evening a musical programme was given at Midhirst by Stratford friends, the items consisting of anti erlfl by tho choir, solos, duets, etc. Mr J. Masters, circuit steward, gave an address, complimenting tho local church ,on its prosperous quarter. The Rev. Bandy presided. EAST KG MONT MISSION. The Rev. .A. Reader, of Stratford, presided at tho quarterly meeting o! the East Egmont Mission, which was held at Mr Phillips’ residence, Hr. iron, and was well attended. The report on tho Sunday-school was considered favorable under the circumstances. One new Sunday-school was opened, and two fe-started, during the quarter. Members for last quarter were 33, and for the September quarter 30. Mr J. i>. Bernard was appointed delegate to tho Synod, and Mr W. Phillips substitute. The meeting expressed its regret that Mr Barnard could not accept an invitation for another year, and its appreciation of his labors. Resolved that stops ho tak'n to soil the house and stove at Hmakama. A grant of £SO was asked for next year. The finances showed a small debit balance. Mrs Phillips entertained the delegates at afternoon tea, and wa< accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
