The Aurora, the first of the new type of oil-driven light cruisers, designed to be the eyes and ears of the battle fleet, and able to cut down any destroyer afloat, has been launched at Devonport.

The Australian correspondent o! The Times suggests that the Liberals propose to curtail the naval vote to check the development of Major Henderson’s scheme. The Tipies, cornmeeting on this, says that a little more or less expenditure is not of much significance to observers at a distance. What is certain is that Australia has set herself manfully to the task of natural defence. The naval problem in the Pacific can only bo gradually solved by a joint conference with Britain and an all-British Pacific community. DEALING WITH DISPUTES. (Received 9.15 a.m.) . London, September 30. The Admiralty states that in future the dockyard officials will settle minor dispute®. In the larger disputes, the Financial Secretary will meet the men’s representatives, whose wages and travelling expenses will be paid.
