Sir, —Regarding the letter signed “Young Omar,” a copy of which, with your permission, 1 have been allowed to peruse, I. have always stated to the audience that I should like a numboi of gents to come forward and act a. c a committee to judge the comic songs, hut as they were shy about it, I left it to the audience as the fairest judges. As to the night when only two performers turned up, I explained tc them, Messrs Havis and Crofts, that to make a competition there must b< more than two singers, but as the promised Eltham singers had not arrived, if they cared to go on and give their “turn” I would give them fb each, as I did not want to disappoint the public. This amount they accepted. However, from my point of view, if they wore both singing for hone\ they would not get the wax. Regarding the essay matinee, all papers Handed to me will he judged by Mr Tyrer, Headmaster of the School, 01 some other gentleman of literary ability. The successful essayist will receive "his or her admission money ■hack as well as four tickets for admission to any of onr shows. What I think of “Young Omar” is that hr might to go hack to the woods.—l am, etc., WILL HTAMOXD,
