His Excellency the Governor, Lord ! Liverpool, will, states His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. P. Kirkwood), pay a visit to Stratford on October 14. His Excellency will arrive by special train, and it is the intention of the authorities to present him with an address of welcome; also, if time will permit, to take His Excellency for a drive round the district in the vicinity of Stratford.
The Hon. H. I). Bell represents the Government at Sir Williain Russell’s funeral and Captain Shaw represents His Excellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool). A special tram conveying a large number of Pailiamentarians (states a Napier P.A. message) is coming from Wellington to the memorial service to be held at the Cathedral at 2.30, the funeral being immediately afterwards.
Ex-King Manuel’s wife is ur in hospital, states a cablegram from Munich.
Mr Benjamin Baker, the young man who fell from the upper floor of the Inglewood Town Hall on Tuesday, died from his injuries in the New Plymouth Hospital this morning.—-P.A.
Mr Thomas Dnlrymple, an old resident of Gisborne, was found in a state of collapse last night, and died on his removal to the Hospital, having taken disinfectants,—Press Association.
The deaths of Sir Albert cle Rnt/.en, chief magistrate at Bow street, and Sir Hely Hutchinson,'formerly Governor of Cape Colony, are announced form London.
The Taranaki Education Board has decided to cast its vote in favour of Mr Gilbert Carson, a candidate for election to the Board of Advice of the Wellington Training College.
The following resignations were accepted at yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Education Board : Mrs Bower, sewing teacher, Okau, from September 30; Mi ss M. A. Rogers, assistant, Waihi, from September 30; Mr N. Blair, sole teacher, Ackland, from October 31; Miss L. Stewart, head teacher, Hillsborough.
Sir, Clements Markham, K.C.8., F.R.S., recently (says the Shipping World of July 16) dedicated, in the presence of the officers and cadets, the memorial put up on hoard the Nautical Training College H.M.S. Worcester to the memory of their gallant old cadet, Lieutenant H. R. Bowers, R.1.M., > who perished with Captain Scott, R.N., in March, >1912, on ,the return journey from the South Pole. Lady Markham, Mrs Bowers, Mr Cherry Garrard, Mr P. Gray, the Rev C. and Mrs Whitmell, and Commander Wil-eon-Baker (Captain-Superintendent of the Worcester) and Mrs Wilson-Bar-ker were uresent.
