; .q •: i c*‘ • 'il ' ' f FROM OUR OWN CpRRES.rONpENI. j The football match for the Dean Cup was played here on Saturday, when , teams representing Strathmore and Mdianga met to decide who should hold tlio cup for 1913. Beautiful weather prevailed, and a good . crowd turned out, both teams having plenty of ban-ackers. After a fast and opengame. the Whanga team finished victorious, by 15 points to nil. Mi?. Keith Armstrong refereed the. match and won the applause of both sides for the capable manner in which he handled the game. The visitors were afterwards entertained by the local team at a smoke social until train time, and they left the station to the accompaniment of hearty cheers from a big crowd.
The Kohuratahi Hall was opened on Friday night last with a grand ball and a record gathering resulted. Over 100 couples were on the floor space, and the dressing and supper rooms were much appreciated. A very excellent «it down supper was provided under the direction of Messrs E. Hill, F. Coxhead and X. Clelancl. During the evening a waltzing competition was held, and after a number of recalls Mr Gerald Flynn and Mrs Kealy were announced the winners. The win was a very popular one, both parties receiving rounds of applause and congratulations. The prizes for the competition were donated by Mr 1). Davis.’
The work of forming Domain Street has commenced. This street will give access to sortie .of Wbanga’s most prettily situated suburban residential si tea, overlooking, as it does, the domain, river, and township. Tlie school and social and dance will be held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, and the committee have set themselves the pleasurable task or ccli )sing their previous record effort in the social lino. The proceeds arc to go towards the Hearing and beautifying of the school grounds. Mr F. O’Slianghnessy, of Whan garni, is staying in the district or holiday. ’ ■ The native clematis is at present r glorinns sight on the Whanga Saddle, and the road over is in excellent order for motoring.
