“PIRATES OF PENZANCE.”
PREPARATIONS WELL FORWARD
After much tribulation the Stratford Operatic Society are to-day able to announce definitely and finally, a® closely as human foresight can, that Gilbert and Sullivan’s bright opera comique “The Pirates of Penzance,” will be produced in the Town Hall on October Bth and 9th. Rehearsals have been continuous, even the recent “bombshell” failing to persuade the enthusiastic members of the Society to stop rehearsing, and now the principals qnd chorus are showing familiarity with their work.
The cast is as follows : Major-General Stanley, Mr F. H. Wilkie; the Pirate King, Mr H. W. Douglas; Samuel (his lieutenant), Mr N. Templer; Frederic (pirate apprentice), Mr W, H. Robinson ; Sergeant of Police, Mr W. Swan; Mabel (General Stanley’s daughter), Mrs C. Massey; Kate (General Stanley’s daughter), Miss G. Black; Edith (General Stanley’s daughter), Miss King; Isabel (General Stanley’s daughter), Miss Cameron; Ruth (a pirate maid), Miss Greenhalgh. The choir consists of daughters' of General Stanley, pirates and police. Following are the daughters:—Misses Butlc?SjfcAnderson, Seigel, Cameron, Prentis, Hignett, Papp, Burgess (2), Black, Staveley (2), Middleton, Fitzgerald (2), Sullivan, Partridge (so-: prano), Middleton, Hopkins, Irvine, Brayshaw and G. Black (contralto), The pirates are: Messrs H. W. Douglas, N. Templet, W. Lawrence, V. OrawshaW, J. East, W. Jones. L. Reader, B. Kivell, J. Mercer, T. O’Leary, B. Hewson, P. Cramer, W. H. Robinson. The police will be represented by Messrs W. Swan, G. Liddington, E. Kivell, N. F. Dunlop. T. Partridge, Kimberley, G. W. Mills, W! S. Cato, and O. W. Vaughan. Between Acts I and' IT a grand ballet will be introduced, Mrs Mcßeth being ballet mistress. The following ladies will take part: Misses Partridge, Sullivan, Sheehan, Cramer, Staveley, Hendry, Williamson, Olliver, Burgess, E. Staveley and Rita Grubb.
The personnel of the orchestra is as follows: Violins, Messrs R. Cottier, C. Penn, Will Hutchens, Misses B. Morison and M. Hopkins; cornet, Mr A. Kelly; cello, Mr W. Everissdouble bass, Mr J. McAllister; French horn, Mr H. Burmister; clarinet, Mr Syd Cottier; flutes, Messrs A. O’Leary and R. B. Anderson; trombones, A. Davis and T. Wilson; pianist, Miss E. Bass Morison, A.T.C.L.; conductor, Mr T. G. Grubb.
