BOARDS OF APPEAL,

The members of the respective Boards of Appeal in connection .with the Public Service Act, Messrs Peter Barr (chairman), P. H, Richardson (nominated by the Government), Mr, A Mills (elected as representative of the Telegraph and Telephone Departments), Mr F. M, Scully (Postal De-. partment), and Messrs. A. Marryatt and J. F. Mount (general service)' mot in Wellington on August 29, and sat until to-day for the purpose of considering matters •of procedure in connection with the carrying on ol the work of the Board. Air H. Gerard was appointed acting-secretary and stenographer to the Board. It j was decided that in so far as classifi-i cation appeals are concerned, sit-|-tings of the Board he closed to the) public and the press, but that members or representatives of the public service he admitted hy ticket. The deliberations of the Board after the bearing of the evidence is closed are to be- held in private. The question of whether copies of the answer of the Commissioner be sent to appellants ito be decided by the Board as each case arises, and when copies are sent, appellants will be informed that i. they so desire they may appear or he represented by a fellow officer before the Board. When appellants apply to lie heard by the Board tiro requests shall be decided upon their merits. Cases of appeal, under section 56 of the Act (relating to misconduct, etc.), j shall be heard with open doors, unless' in the opinion of the Board the cir-| curastances are such as to render ait, open Court undesirable, and appellants shall then have the right to be; represented by counsel or an agent. | The Board, in, addition to meeting in.j Wellington, will hold sittings in j Dunedin, Christchurch, Auckland and j (Msewhere, as may bo decided upon ; from, time to time. The Board will 1 meet next in Wellington, on or about the 29th inst,, to deal first with the general service appeals, and then witb| those of the Telegraph and Postal Departments. The order in which appeals from other districts will be dealt with will be Dmn decided.
