A “PIG-HEADED” YOUTH. [Per Press Association.] Hamilton, September 1. Two youths named Coombes and Monckman were ordered to serve a term of military detention by Mr Haws on, S.M., at Hamilton to-day. The magistrate tried to reason with Coombes, but his efforts were useless. The latter stated that if fines continued to bo stopped from Hi s wages be would cease work. Ho was determined not to drill, and if ever he was forced to enter battle he would probably bo shot in the back while he was running away. The magistrate said it was of no use trying to reason with such “a pig-headed” youth, and he would see who tired first.
A MISSING LAUNCH. Dunedin, September 4. The Chief Postmaster has been advised by the Postmaster at Owaka that a fishing launch with four men on board lias been missing from Tautuku since Saturday. ’The names of the men are Meek (2), Graham and Meadows. There was no trace ®f the men till 5.15 p.m. to-day. A launch left Tautuku this afternoon to search for them, and the lighthousekeepers and passing vessels have been requested to keep a look-out for them. OWAKA LAUNCH SAFE.
Dunedin, September 2. The' missing launch from Owaka turned up all safe.
