STRIKE LOSSES IN VICTORIA. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press 'Association.] Melbourne, August 28. Last quarter £131,000 in wages was lost in Australia through strikes. There were 8972 persons directly involved and 7858 indirectly.
BROKEN HILL STRIKE. (Received 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, August 30. The Broken Hill shop assistants' r.trike is quiet. The employees at the Co-operative Society's Stores are still out. The bakers at the Societies' bakery have resumed, but members of the Barrier Labor Federation visited the bakery, and operations then ceased.
FEDERATION OF LABOR

The ballot-papers issued to members of the New Zealand Seamen's Union on the question of amalgamating with the United Federation of Labor were counted last night. The votes received from ports all through the Dominion came to only 1426, The result is as follows:—For amalgamation 610. against amalgamation 81-6. A few small returns are yet to arrive, but cannot affect the result.
