WRECK OF A STEAMER.
MANY PASSENGERS AND CREW PERISH. [By Electric Telegraph—Copy'right! [United Press Association.] (Received 12.50 p.m.) * Vancouver, August 18. The steamer State of California struck ah uncharted rock near Cambrian Bay, Juneau, Alaska, and became a total loss. • Twenty-five passengers were drowned, 'the majority while they were asleep. The steamship Jefferson was summoiled by wireless and arrived in time to have forty-two. Many of the crow also perished. Some of the passengers were hound to f|hemne,vvrn.gold>#ggipgs at Shoe shanna, where a rich discovery Was recently made.
