CRICKET. ,J3y Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 11.50 a.m.) London, August 12. Hobbs, batting lor Surrey, scored 115 against Kent. The latter requires 378 runs to avoid an innings defeat. ..Notts, playing against Lancaster, closed the innings with 507 runs for three wickets. Lee scored 200 not out, and Carr 169, and the same partnership added 333 for the second wicket.

CRIBBACE. The members of the Ngaere cribbage team turned out in full force last night at the Ngaere Hall, despite the inclement weather, for the purpose of making presentations to the winners of the tournament for the season. A few members of the Stratford cribbage club journeyed down, and were the guests of the Ngaere players. A very pleasant game of progressive crib was indulged in, and Mr J. Thomas, sen., was the winner of most games during the evenings play. After play had finished the tables were set, and a very tasty supper was partaken of. Mr W. Morrison, the "skipper" of the team, then called order, and made a neat little speech on the, year's ,play, at the close of which he presented the trophies won during the season to Messrs J. Thomas, sen;, and T, Orr, who won with the narrow margin of three ganWs over Messrs Willis' 'and Morrison, and, called for. three.,cheers, which were heartily given.

Both recipients suitably replied, ind' paid a "special' tribute to their .•aptainfor his good generalship, and to the members as good sports, all of vhom were eager to indulge in a hand of crib.

Air Sims and kind remarks concerning "tlie'' secretary, Mr J. Thomas, jun., whom lie said was not only a keen enthusiast, but an ardent worker, and was, no doubt,, responsible for the success of the very pleasant evenings spent during the season; and on behalf of the team he presented him with a trophy in recognition of his services, and called for three cheers, which were given in good old Ngaere style. Mr Thomas returned thanks. Mr J. Jones, on.behalf of the Stratford, representatives, thanked the members for their kind remarks, and also for their invitation to be present, which he and the members thoroughly appreciated, and he extended on hehalf of his team a challenge to play another match before the season closes; and it was agreed to play another match on the evening of the 26th, at Stratford. The very pleasant evening was brought to a close about 11 p.m., everyone having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

GUN CLUB. At a well attended meeting for the purpose of considering the advisability of forming a gun club at Eltham in Saturday, it was resolved to form i gun club to be called the "Eltham Jun Club." Officers were elected , s follows:—-Patron, Mr C. A. Wilkinion, M.P.; president, Mr F. Basham ; /ice-presidents, Messrs. J. M. Poyn:er and L. Webby; committee, Messrs Et. Knacky, C. Martin, A. R. Gower, H. Harrison, M. Granville, J. Best, ,md J. A. Wheeler; treasurer, Mr F. Casey; secretary, Mr C. Ford. It was resolved that Mr Hunter (Stratford) be asked to act as handicapper. A start is to be made on the 28th instant, when a match will be fired.

FOOTBALL. CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. The final for the second junior - championship between New Plymouth High School and Okaiawa, should draw a good crowd to the showgrounds tomorrow afternoon.
