HAN D-TO-HAND FIGHT. [By Electric Telegraph—-Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 10.55 a.m.) London, August 10. A free-speech demonstration in Trafalgar Square, at which Messis J. C. Wedgwood, Will Thorne, and Lansbury spoke, culminated in Miss Sylvia Paiikhurst’s arrest for leading the attack on Downing Street. A hand-to-hand light ensued, wherein the police used truncheons. HECKLING LLOYD GEORGE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) London, August 10. Mr Lloyd George was much interrupted, by suffragettes in a speech at a, meeting of miners on social reform. The chairman threatened that the audience might duck them m a pond.
ARSON WORK FRUSTRATED. Suffragettes set lire to the higner grade schools in Suttor4-in-Ashflekl, using paraffin and explosives. The police cut the fuses and the fire brigade extinguished the lire before sei ious damage was clone. HORSEWHIPPING AN M.P. Whon Suffragettes attempted to horsewhip Mr Pearson (Liberal M.P. for Suffolk, Eye Division), a party of women who had just been released from gaol, ran to rescue him. A sharp melee followed, and the suffragettes were quickly worsted ,and had to be rescued by the police. The ordinary prisoners display strong antipathy to the suffragettes because they were released while the others were obliged to serve their sentences. The women were obviously delighted at tho opportunity for ventilating their grievances in a practical manner.
