NEWS FROM SYDNEY. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press (Association.] Sydney, August 10. Five smallpox cases were reported in the Metropolitan area on Saturday, and three to-day. There is also a case at Harden. The Mongolia’s case has been diagnosed as smallpox. The steamer sailed without communicating with the shore. ANOTHER QUEENSLAND CASE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) Brisbane, August 11. Another caso of smallpox has occurred at Ipswich, FURTHER CASES IN AUCKLAND. 1 [Per Press Association.] Auckland, August 10.
No fewer than seven new cases of the smallpox epfSsmic were "located yesterday afternoon and transferred to the isolation hospital at Point Chevalier. Four of them are natives, and they were found off Upper Queen Street, where there are some Maori boarding-houses. One European case was found in Ponsonhy, and two more Maoris were brought up from Waiheko Island.
A case occurred in Mar mi on street three weeks ago, and it is thought that chose now affected are contacts. The Department further believes that the patients in question have been hiding their knowledge of the affliction. SUSPECT AT THE HTJTT. Wellington, August 10. A Maori child at the.' Hutt is suspected to bo suffering from smallpox. The patient, who came from a Taranaki Maori settlement a few weeks ago, has been isolated, and all precautions taken. No official bulletin has been issued by the Health Department to-day, no telegrams having been received from the infected areas.
