ON THE RAND.
THE FEDERATION’S DEMANDS. I By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] [United Press Association.] Johannesburg, August; S. At a mass meeting of the Labor Party resolutions were carried insisting on the Labor Federation’s demands being conceded, and demanding an immediate dissolution of Parliament. GREATEST PIECE OF INSOLENCE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables. (Received 8.0 a.m.) Johannesburg, August 8. Sir 0. P. de V. Graaf, Minister without portfolio in the Union Ministry, speaking at Oudtshoorn, emphasised the fact that the Government and the people were not prepared to allow a continuation of the present state of affairs, which was tantamount to abrogation of authority. The people must unite to prevent the reputation of the country being dragged to tbe level of the South American Republics, and not allow strike agitators to take the law into their own hands. The demand of the Miners’ National Association for the recall of Viscount Gladstone was tbe greatest piece of insolence and arrogance known. He was glad Britain bad treated it with the contempt it deserved.
