OVER NATIVE RAIDS

Brisbane? July 30

Father McCarthy, who has arrived from New Guinea, states that rcicently the natives were raiding in the vicinity of the Chten Stanley Range. A village was wiped out and a native constable .shot. Many villagers were slaughtered. It is reported that a punitive expedition caught and shot several of the raiders.

ANOTHER ACCOUNT. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Brisbane, July 30. Another account of the native raid at New Guinea states that three men. including a Native policeman, were killed and three wounded. The expedition punished the raiders, hut the reported shooting of some of them is not confirmed.
