THE CHINESE REVOLT.
BACK OF INSURRECTION BROKEN
[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] Pekin, July 23.
The Northerners, co-operating with the navy, have captured tlie Sukan ports, breaking the back of the ininsurrection in Kiangsi. Changsun's unexpected loyalty also disconcerted the rebels, obliging them to retreat to the Hivai River. The Southern leaders are preparing for fight, and are transferring their funds to Japan.
Shanghai reports the landing of foreign bluejackets, including a British contingent with four guns. This has relieved the situation. The shells of the Northern warships drove out the rebels, and countryfolk are returning to their homes. The district is in a pitiable state of devastation. The crops have heen trodden down, and corpses arc everywhere. There were many large fires in Shanghai on Thursday and Friday.
