The allegation is that the four men conspired together to obtain money from the Com->any-by signing on the wages sheets actitious names and the names of men ,vho were not, during the period covered by the respective wagej sheets, working for the Company. It is probrble that there will altogether* '"be Mght or nine charges, covering an imount of about £3OO, and going back 'or a period of eighteen months. The n-osecution is the outcome of some remark made in the clerical depart—nent of the Auckland office about the repetition of one, of the signatures, n consequence of which Detectives jtourley and Quartermain made pri-, /ate inquiries, which- resulted in the irrcsfc, some daj's ago, of Saunders ind Owens, and, later, of Tyrell and Davies.
