TWO NARROW ESCAPES

Early this morning an eight-roomed shop and dwelling at Island Bay was destroyed by fire. Mr W. 0. Wilkinson and his wife were sleeping upstairs, and the first intimation Mr Wilkinson had was the flames licking his face. He threw his wife out of the window and then jumped out himself. They were taken to a doctor with hums on the face and feet and with strained hacks, but their injuries were not serious. The building was owned By Odliiv and Co., and 'insured for £7OO. and the stable for £4O in the Alliance office. The contents were .insured for £7OO in the London -and Lancashire office and for £437 in the Guardian office.
