AN UGLY OUTLOOK.
SOUTH AFRICAN TROUBLE,
TRADE UNIONS' DEMANDS
[By Electhic Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.]
Johannsburg, July 20
The majority arc hopeful of a compromise in connection with the Federation of Trades Unions' demands, but the employers regard the miners' demands as wholly impracticable and ruinous. It is believed that if the Government is able to satisfy the railway men the miners will hesitate to strike, provided that their demands are considered by the lately-announc-ed Commission of Enquiry. If, however, the railwaymen and miners reject this method and demand immediate satisfaction of their claims, the Government must face a calamitous general strike and other troubles.
