COLOR TESTS FOR SEAMEN

Mr Buxton (President of the Board of Trade), in reply to Mr Peto (Unionist M.P. for East Wilts) in iiis denunciation of the drastic color costs imposed on officers in the merchant service under pressure by the Union Steamship Co. of Xew Zealand, promised to enquire how far the complaints were justified. The only question was the securing of the right sort of test for color blindness.

London, July 17. Vice-Admiral Fawkos, at the Navy League meeting, said that the ships >f the Empire fleet should work together. The only way was to interchange separate squadrons. He had suggested to the Prime Minister of Australia that as soon as they got our cruisers they should interchange vith soldiers from the War Office. Laughter). Tlfe Empire's chief con•ern was to think of peace and have sufficient strength in force.
