A large party, including prominent Colonials in London, bade farewell to a band of M.lYs., who Will tour the colonies. The late J. C. Williamson's body has been left at Cherbourg aboard the St. Paul. Mrs Williamson and her daughters have gone ahead to Chicago on the Kron Prinz Wilhelm.
The captain of the Cambrian Chieftain states that terrible weather was experienced until the vessel was 800 miles from Cape Horn. It culminated in a 24 hours' hurricane, during which the crew assembled on the poop, not daring to move. A huge wave swept the deck, carrying away beltings and everything movable. A pearl necklace valued at £125,000 was stolen in transit by post between Paris and Hatton Garden. The package was received with the seals intact. The necklace was replaced by sugar.
